The Baltic Handysize Index has been published as a trial index since May 2006
and went live on the first reporting day of January 2007.
Handysize vessels are used to transport a wide variety of commodities including
steel, fertiliser, grains, scrap, minerals, timber and logs. Similar to
Supramaxes, the majority of Handies are geared, enabling them to go into
smaller ports with less developed infrastructure.
The Handysize FFA sector embraces one of the largest client bases, reflecting
the substantial number of ships in this sector.
The most regularly traded Handysize FFAs at this stage are the weighted average
of the 6 t/c routes. However, it is possible to trade any individual route
desired.
